"Industrial Rice": Even the tiniest defects in screws and nuts can lead to life-threatening accidents. Recent reviews of multiple safety incidents reveal that uncontrolled fastener quality has quietly become a growing threat to public safety.

The harrowing moments of British Airways Flight 5390 in 1990 remain a stark reminder today: 84 out of the cockpit windshield’s retaining screws failed to meet standards, causing the glass to shatter mid-flight and nearly pulling the captain bodily out of the aircraft. Though the co-pilot managed to regain control and avert disaster, the incident underscored the critical importance of stringent quality control over fastener specifications. In 2010, Shenzhen’s Eastern OCT “Space Odyssey” attraction collapsed due to a single loose bolt, tragically resulting in six fatalities. Later that same year, an escalator on Shenzhen Metro Line 1 malfunctioned when its main motor mounting bolt came loose and snapped, sending the escalator into reverse motion and injuring 25 people.

In recent years, similar accidents have continued to occur from time to time: In 2020, a construction elevator in Yulin collapsed from a great height due to the absence of two high-strength connecting bolts, resulting in the tragic deaths of six workers. Then, in 2023, a truck on the Guangkun Expressway experienced a collision after its left-rear wheel bolt snapped, causing two fatalities and one injury. Industry experts emphasize that these incidents are far from coincidental—issues such as inadequate dimensional accuracy, substandard tensile strength, and failure of anti-loosening mechanisms are key contributing factors. They stress that regular inspection and maintenance, coupled with rigorous quality control, are essential to preventing such tragedies.
